South Korea Released a Draft Decree Including Additional Electronic Products and Hazardous Substances to their Local Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS).
The Ministry of Environment of Korea released the “Revision of the Enforcement Decree of the Act on Resource Circulation of Electrical and Electronic and Vehicles.” This legislation increases the number of electrical and electronic products that should comply with the rules on hazardous substances of South Korea. The additional products include surveillance cameras, video game consoles (not including handheld game consoles), scanners (excluding portable), GPS navigation devices, and projectors.
Four (4) substances were also added to the list of hazardous substances which includes:
-Bis (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP)
-Butyl benzyl phthalate (BBP)
-Dibutyl phthalate (DBP)
-Diisobutyl phthalate (DIBP)
This decree changes the number of electrical and electronic products in scope from 26 to 49 as well as the number of hazardous substances from 6 to 10.
Comments were accepted until August 25, 2020, with a proposed enforcement date of January 1, 2021.
