In November 2020, Saudi Arabia announced a draft version of the RoHS Regulations (Regulations on Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment), which was notified by WTO / TBT report. After soliciting public comments on the draft, it is expected that the official version of the rules will be issued, and usually a transition period of half a year will be required to make it mandatory.
Under this technical regulation established by the authority SASO, it is necessary to submit the technical data that meets the requirements to the certification body in advance, obtain the certification, and link it with the import declaration system (SABER) at the time of customs clearance.
The UL Environment Department is collaborating with the local Middle East office to confirm the details of the regulations and certification requirements with the Saudi Arabian authority SASO. In addition, we plan to apply for examination and negotiate requirements with SASO so that we can issue SASO RoHS certification as a certification body in the future. At the earliest, we are planning to be ready in the first half of 2021.
