Taiwan Issues a range of technical specifications for Telecommunications equipment

The National Communications Commission of Taiwan recently published a range of technical specifications for the telecommunications terminal equipment.These specifications were issued in the execution of the Telecommunications Management Act.

All telecommunications terminal equipment that connects to the public switched telecommunications network that is intended for the use or import in Taiwan should meet the compliance of the relevant technical specification and be assessed appropriately before sold in Taiwan.

8 technical specifications which apply to the following equipment:

1. IP0001 Technical Specifications for the Terminal Equipment for Fixed Communications Multimedia Content Transmission Platforms – It concerns devices that are equipped with an IP interface of Ethernet port and receive and demodulate signals transmitted.

2. PSTN01 Technical Specifications for the Telecommunications Terminal Equipment for Public Switched Telephone Network – It concerns telecommunications terminal equipment.

3. ONTE01 Technical Specifications for the Telecommunications Terminal Equipment for Fiber-Optics Network – It concerns telecommunications terminal equipment for the fiber-optics network and contains test methods.

4. IS6100 Technical Specifications for the Telecommunications Terminal Equipment for ISDN Subscriber – It concerns the following types of telecommunications terminal equipment for ISDN subscribers:

ISDN digital telephone set
ISDN personal computer adaptor
ISDN G4 facsimile machine
ISDN video telephone set
ISDN terminal adaptor or module
ISDN PABX

5. ID0002 Technical Specifications for the Telecommunications Terminal Equipment for DS1 Telecommunication – It concerns digital signal 1 telecommunications terminal equipment.

6. VDSL01 Technical Specifications for the Telecommunications Terminal Equipment and POTS Splitters for Very-high-speed Digital Subscriber Lines – It concerns to Transceiver Units – remote terminal (VTU-R) and POTS splitters and is based on the relevant ITU-T Recommendations.

7. ADSL01 Technical Specifications for the Telecommunications Terminal Equipment and POTS Splitters for Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Lines – It concerns ATU-R and POTS splitters and is based on the relevant ITU-T Recommendations.

Malaysia SIRIM-MCMC Regulatory Updates

The Malaysia SIRIM CMCS Department, responsible for MCMC certification, recently implemented a significant update regarding Intellectual Property (IP) Forms for Type Approval applications. These forms replace the trademark authorization letter to improve efficiency and accuracy in approvals. The new IP Forms categorize trademark declarations based on whether the applicant has obtained authorization from the trademark/brand owner. For applicants who have been authorized, the required documents include evidence of a registration certificate issued by the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia (MyIPO). Or an equivalent foreign organization, along with an Intellectual Property (IP) Authorization Letter (eTAC/FOR/01-8). On the other hand, if the applicant has not obtained written consent and authorization to use the trademark/brand, they must submit the Intellectual Property (IP) Undertaking form issued by the applicant (eTAC/FOR/01-9). Importantly, these new forms are effective immediately and will be used for all new projects. They mark a significant shift in SIRIM's approach. The organization can now accept brands/trademarks that have not been officially authorized by the brand owner. However, in such cases, the importer must provide a written declaration accepting responsibility. Furthermore, the new Brand name authorization process requires both the Brand owner and the Importer to co-sign the Brand name authorization letter.
