BIS certification(Bureau of Indian Standards) has issued guidelines in its letter dated June 24, 2020, related to the implementation of Revised IS 1293:2019 for “Plugs and socket-outlets for household and similar purposes of rated voltage up to and including 250V & rated current up to and including 16A”.
The last date for implementation of the revised standard i.e. IS 1293:2019 is October 23, 2020, and after which, the old standard i.e. IS 1293:2005 shall stand withdrawn.
No action is required for the licensee using BIS certified plugs/sockets from the same source as declared in the Critical Component List (CCL). In the case of change of source of BIS certified plugs/sockets, as declared earlier, the CCL list may be updated through the Compulsory Registration Scheme (CRS) portal. New applicants shall ensure that plugs/sockets used in the products are BIS certified as per applicable IS 1293 standards with the Standards Mark, and the same shall be declared in the CCL list.
Please notice – per the quality control order issued via gazette notifications dated December 4, 2019 (extended via a notification dated May 18, 2020); from December 1, 2020, ISI mark will be mandatory on the plugs and they should abide by the latest version of Indian Standards i.e. IS 1293:2019.
