The Directing Council of the National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) approved, on Thursday (6/2), a proposal for a Bidding Notice for the radio frequency bands that will allow the implementation of the fifth-generation (5G) technology in Brazil.
The proposal approved for the Bidding Notice for the 700 MHz, 2.3 GHz, 3.5 GHz and 26 GHz bands sought to reach for total agreement among the members of the collegiate and was based on elements from the two previous proposals.
With the addition of more bandwidth, in what will be the main band for the development of 5G, it will be possible to meet more comprehensively the demands that were presented, especially those of the Small Providers (PPP), which may be part of the development of this new technology.
The commitments associated with all bands were proposed with the objective of increasing fixed broadband infrastructure and access to mobile services in areas of less commercial interest, as outlined by the Structural Plan for Telecommunications Networks (PERT).
Regarding the possible interference caused by 5G in the reception of open satellite TV, the approved proposal addresses the solution through a model similar to that adopted for the 700 MHz band, with the creation of a group coordinated by Anatel and an independent third party to operationalize the solution.
