On 15 January 2019, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) published the 20th update of the REACH Candidate List1. Six new Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) were added. Hence, the total number of SVHCs on the Candidate List increases from 191 to 197.
Among the six substances which underwent the public consultation during September and October 2018, only five substances were included in the Candidate List. The proposal of Undecafluorohexanoic acid (PFHxA) and its ammonium salt (APFHx) was withdrawn3 by the dossier submitter during the Member State Committee (MSC) agreement-seeking process.
Besides the substances which underwent public consultation, one further substance, 1,7,7-trimethyl-3-(phenylmethylene)bicyclo[2.2.1]heptan-2-one(3-benzylidene camphor)4 was also included into the Candidate List. In December 2018, 3-benzylidene camphor was identified as SVHC by the European Commission (EC) due to its endocrine disrupting properties with probable serious effects to the environment.
